CRA’s Washington DC representative, Xenia Woyevodsky met on August 7 with Sam Eskenazi, head of the Coalition for the National Museum of the American People in Washington DC.
The Coalition for the National Museum of the American People was created by Eskenazi, following his success as former Director of Public Information for the US Holocaust Memorial Museum,
To date, there are approximately 270 organizations listed. CRA was one of the original organizations to join the coalition when it was first initiated in 2011. During the meeting with Woyevodsky, CRA was invited to be on the Leadership Committee representing Russian-Americans in the U.S. The Leadership Committee consists of those nationalities that have had a greater impact on the history of the U.S.
Currently, the project falls into two categories:
(l) Feasibility Study (approximately $1 million) conducted by Smithsonian. Groups and private donors will be tagged for this. The completed report will include legislation (l) to create an entity, to build and operate this museum
(2) to request Congress to donate federal land near the National Mall for this purpose.
